Based on the Dynaudio, Vario Vent, these flow resistors are used to help tame peaky bass in boxes that are a bit smaller than ideal. They are said to increase the apparent volume of the cabinet from 10-20%.
They also have the benefit of lowering the impedance peak near resonance, so you amplifier can deliver more power at those frequencies.
