The “Integrity “ Loudspeaker Kit by Rick Craig
After Jeff’s recent passing I was prompted to help his wife Christine and son David. The kit will help contribute to the Bagby family and also provide a way for me to give back to the DIY community. Jeff gave me inspiration for the design and the name “Integrity” was chosen to reflect not just his commitment to faithful audio reproduction but also how he lived his life.
I met Jeff Bagby via the Madisound forum back in the 90’s. In 2000 I hosted a local DIY event which was centered on building a specific 2-way design. The participants sent in their version of the crossover and we did blind testing to determine which ones performed best. One of the participants was Jeff and his design came in 2nd place but not too distant from being the winner. What made it impressive is that Jeff only worked from a software model and never even listened to the speakers!
As many of you know Jeff went on to contribute a great deal of free help to other DIY builders. Included in that were many kits that varied from entry level to more advanced designs. We met in person in the early 2000’s, first in my hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana and a few years later in Indianapolis. I lost touch with Jeff after that and we reconnected a few years ago on the DIY Facebook groups.
The specs.
675hz and 3.3K crossover points. The impedance is 7 ohms / nominal and 5.5 / minimum
The Drivers.
The process of deciding on what to create wasn’t easy since Jeff had already covered a myriad of speaker combinations. My goals were 1) something different than what Jeff previously designed, 2) to make it affordable and not overly difficult to build, 3) to pay homage to places Jeff had been involved with – Madisound, Parts Express, and Meniscus, and 4) be original while implementing some of the concepts that Jeff had used such as lower complexity crossovers and passive radiators. I personally thank each kit builder who contributes to the Bagby family and hopes you enjoy the performance of the “Integrity” while finding it a worthwhile tribute to Jeff!
