Keramiskas speaker Kit by Craig Salin
This system has traveled to numerous DIY events and has always gotten great reviews. When SB Acoustics released the CAC line and showed a sample kit called the “Ceramicos” at Axpona, several builders took notice. At the time no other builders had done a system using this but it became clear that there might be something a bit magical here.
Craig verified the woofer would model well in a small bookshelf sized cabinet, then went in search of a tweeter to pair it with. He recalled a design by John H. that use the Hi-Vi planar magnetic tweeter and how natural bells, whistles, and cymbals sounded.
Craig says, “My design goal was a $300ish pair of 12-14 liter bookshelf monitors that would have very flat on and off-axis frequency response with low distortion drivers. This project met my goals and exceeded my expectations.”
The crossover is a bit more complex than average and uses the Audyn, Q4 capacitors throughout.
Jim says -“I’ve heard the design multiple times and really liked it. The SB15CAC driver is very smooth and detailed with excellent bass extension and matches the HiVi planer really well. Craig nailed the crossover and voiced it exceptionally. In sounds really good!”
