DIY Polarity Tester Kt
Now there is an easy way to test that mid range or woofer for polarity with this easy to build kit.
After uncovering a carton of plastic potting boxes from our storage, I had the idea to throw together this little kit. If you have a few common tools and can solder, this is an easy project. You might have heard about the battery trick for this. This little kit makes it a snap to check your polarity.
Here is what you get:
- Plastic enclosure
- Battery holder
- AA Battery
- Push Button Switch
- Lead Wires
- Alligator Clips
How does it work?
The red wire is connected to the positive end of the battery. When you touch the positive clip to the positive speaker terminal and press the button, the woofer cone will move outward. You’ve just indentified the positive woofer terminal! If the positive clip was attached to the woofer’s negative terminal, the cone will move inward.
Will it work on tweeters?
No. The tweeter dome won’t travel far enough for the human eye to notice any movement.
What do I need to make this?
Helpful tools are:
- Drill Bits
- Soldering Iron
- Solder
- Crimper
- Socket Set
- Wire Strippers
- Heat Gun
