The SB Revolution Mini Be Loudspeaker kit by Jeff Bagby
SB29BAC – It is an exceptional tweeter for its price point. Jeff sees absolutely no reason to spend more on a tweeter. This tweeter has sonic characteristics that he only associates with very few of the best tweeters he’s ever heard. He’s not listened to the “Satori” Beryllium but it’s hard for him to believe it sounds a lot different.
“This is absolutely one of the best high-frequency drivers I have ever heard regardless of price. I sold my Scan Illuminators and my Transducer Labs Berylliums, but I won’t be getting rid of these. I may even switch over to these for my ultimate speaker build.”
If the price of Beryllium is a bit too high for you, the SB29SDAC tweeter is a great performer and a perfect mate for the Satorie Tweeter.
Not new, but still the current state of the art in small mid woofers. The papyrus paper cone combined with its low distortion neo motor offers excellent midrange. Combined with the passive radiator, bass extension is quite surprising for a 5″ woofer.
The woofer comes in two versions – Natural White Papyrus and the Dyed Black Papyrus. Sonically, they are identical. Choose the look you like best.
Jeff optimized the crossover in both the frequency and phase domains at the same time. The frequency response is exceptionally flat from 50 Hz up. The two drivers track each other in relative acoustic phase. They track together in the crossover region and over a very wide bandwidth. The crossover point is at 1.8kHz. The response on axis measures flat.
How Does it Sound?
The Revolution Mini-Monitor Be is Jeff’s assault on the state of the art, 7 liters, 13cm woofer mini-speaker -with 5″ Satori midbass, 29 mm Beryllium tweeter, and 5×9″ rear mounted passive radiator. Acoustic 4th order crossover at 1800 Hz, with nearly perfect phase alignment. Extremely flat frequency response. Flat to 50 Hz and in-room measures down to 45 Hz before it starts to roll off. Sounds impressively bigger than it is. But the real kicker says Jeff – “I’ve been doing this a long time and these may be the best imaging speakers I have heard. It’s uncanny, almost three-dimensional.”
The woofer cabinet is .26cu ft or about 7L and measures 8″ wide, 13″ High and 7.5″ deep (3/4″ material)
Sensitivity is rated at 85dB
